Giant Spider Warning Sign

One of my first posts was for my Giant Lawn Spider Webs. I decided to spice up my webs this year with a few spider warning signs:
Halloween Spider Web Caution Signs

*I used my Silhouette for this project but you easily use purchased stickers or free hand the letters*

You need:

  • 4 Pieces of scrap wood, smooth enough to paint
  • 2 colors of paint (I used a .50 paint sample and black acrylic)
  • Contact Paper/ Vinyl letters for the stencil
  • Screws and Drill
  • Piece of Rope

Start by painting 3 pieces of the wood with your base color, this is the color the letters will be, I used Candied Lime from Valspar. Let it dry, if you add the contact paper before the paint is set it will peel off the base coat.

When the base coat is dry, smooth on the contact paper and press along the edges to get a good seal.

Paint over with the top color. Paint the remaining piece of wood the same as the top coat. This will be the post for the lawn sign, cut the bottom off at an angle so it’s easier to pound the stake in. Spray paint would be awesome for this but I used black craft acrylic. Mine was old and I had to water it down, DO NOT do that, it seeped under the contact paper and I had to repaint the whole hanging sign by hand.

Gently remove the contact paper. Let the top coat dry.

Screw the lawn sign together. In my opinion it looks best off kilter, like someone was being chased by a giant spider when he made the sign. Bang it in to the ground near the webs (or anywhere you want to scare some kids)

Drill 2 holes through the top of the last board. Thread a rope through and tie a knot to secure. Hang it in a tree by your webs.

This is the 8 foot spider I bought on super clearance last November, can’t wait to get him set up this year!

This is the temporary set up for now, closer to Halloween (I’m thinking September 30th) I’ll set up the lawn webs and get a full effect picture!

I used to go all out decorating when I lived in the city - now living rural, no one would see my fantastic Halloween decorations *sighs*

Popped in from Gonna Love It.

Great display, I can't wait to see the full effect as Halloween gets closer. My family and I saw the giant spiders at a store last week, they freaked my toddler out, so no giant spiders for us this year. Thank you for sharing on my Our Favorite Things Link Party. Have a great week.
